House Republicans Unveil Reauthorization Legislation
Abstract:
Yesterday ranking House Education Committee member Howard “Buck” McKeon (R-CA) released The College Access and Opportunity Act to reauthorize the Higher Education Act. The Senate already unanimously approved its own reauthorization legislation before the August recess, but the House has been slower to tackle the issue. McKeon’s 409 page bill is the House’s first attempt at reauthorization legislation, which already proposes changes to provisions that just went into effect earlier this week by the College Cost Reduction and Access Act. The Republican bill is by no means final; House Democrats are expected to release their own reauthorization bill within the next few weeks.
