Rep. Tim Bishop Assures Aid Administrators That Legislation Will Help Students

July 13th, 2007 by Justin

Abstract:

Rep. Tim Bishop (D-NY) addressed the NASFAA Conference attendees at the closing breakfast of the annual conference on Wednesday. Born and raised in Southampton, NY, Bishop recounted his own experience as a financial aid director at Southampton College. Bishop gave a special thanks to NASFAA President Dallas Martin - who will be retiring at the end of this year - for his “effective and inspirational voice” for aid administrators across the country. Bishop focused the majority of his remarks on the College Cost Reduction Act of 2007 (H.R. 2669), which passed by a broad majority in the House later that afternoon after some heated debate. Bishop saved his harshest criticism for the Department of Education. Bishop believes that the Department has overstepped its authority in trying to regulate “what should have been accomplished legislatively.”
