FFELP Advocates Contend With Reporters’ Questions About "Borrower Choice," Denounce Proposed Subsidy Cuts
Abstract:
Reporters from various news sources peppered student loan providers yesterday about the failings of the current student loan system to provide students enough choice in choosing a lender. The media roundtable, sponsored by America’s Student Loan Providers (ASLP), was supposed to focus on the lenders’ opposition to the $18 billion proposed subsidy cuts recently passed by the House and Senate Education Committees. Instead, reporters spent much of the time asking questions about the pervasive student loan “steering that occurs on most campuses.”
